A method and apparatus for separation of a fluid into components, includes rotating the fluid in a multi-chambered container (100) to accomplish a centrifuging operation. The multi-chambered container may have plural chambers (110, 120, 130, 140) connected in series by necks (115, 125, 135). An apparatus for rotating the container may include a holder for supporting the container during rotation, and a centrifuge for rotating the container and the holder. In addition, the apparatus for rotating the container may include clamping devices for closing off the necks and detectors (150, 160, 170) mounted adjacent the necks for detecting movement of material through the necks.
