The recording apparatus comprises a plurality of rotary recording devices #0 - #P each of which has a write area with a plurality of blocks for storing data, wherein each individual recording device may be replaced with a recovery device #2 which stores recovered data of the replaced device. The array controller accesses data and redundant data recorded as a group in the blocks of the plurality of recording devices, and said array controller includes synchronization means for shifting the rotational phase of the recovery device from the rotational phase of the other devices by a predefined period t , and re-write means for reading a group of data from the write areas of the plurality of recording devices. Data is recovered during a time period corresponding to said predefined period t using the said group of data read from the write area; and the recovered data is stored into the recovery device. |
