When in the coded motion picture data recording method, coded motion picture data (VDREC), recorded on a recording medium (CD-MO), are edited for each group of frames (GOF), the edited groups of frames (GOF) are made discriminable, and edit operations are carried out. A predetermined number of intraframe coded or interframe coded frames are made self-sufficient within one group of frames (GOF).
