The invention describes a process and an apparatus for the preparation of a homogeneous, thermoplastically processable, low-viscosity melt of high melt stability from chemically modified starch, plasticisers, emulsifiers and the preferred additive urea and/or urea derivative(s). The starch melt according to the invention has a melt viscosity of from 500 to 30,000 Pa.s at 160 DEG C and 234.6 N in a Göttfert melt flow viscometer and is used to produce shaped parts of all types. ……
