A machine for processing synthetic threads has several treatment stations (1) with supply bobbins (2) from each with at least one thread (22) running to winding-on devices (17), each comprising a drive roller (6) with perpendicular axis and parallel to and variable in distance from it, a shaft (13) carrying a spool (16) bearing against the roller. A laying appts. (21) lays thread along the spool in small increments; i.e. between winding-on device and laying appts. there is a relative movement for winding formation. Here the winding-on device is displaced vertically for laying the thread winding along the length of the spool and if need be the laying appts. is shifted vertically to shorten the width of the thread layer.
