[Also in Divisions E1-2] In order to secure a door 12 in its closed position within an opening in a wall, e.g. of a pressure vessel, at least one clamping member 36 is hinged at 48 to the wall adjacent the opening, and power means, e.g. piston and cylinder combination 32, is drivingly connected to the or each clamping member to urge the free end of the latter into door-securing engagement with a planar surface of a plate 38, forming part of the door. The plate 38 is formed with a groove 54, in which a roller 50, mounted on the free end of each clamping member, will lodge in the event of a fault developing in the power means, the groove being in the same plane 61 normal to the plate as clamp hinge axis 48. The plate 38 is formed with a bevelled edge 52. A flange 60 of the door seats on a resilient gasket 58 in the door-secured position. Four clamping members 36, each with its own power means, may be arranged around the periphery or a circular hinged door, Fig. 1 (not shown), and a separate hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder may be provided for opening and closing the door. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), each of two spaced circular doors is provided with a pair of clamping members, one pair being connected to the piston-rods of two power means and the other pair being connected to the cylinders of the same two power means.</p> |
