Gel formers and gels contain a) acid aluminium phosphates, optionally in the form of reaction products with from 0.01 to 4 mol of alkanolamines per mole of aluminium phosphate, and b) reaction products of boric acid with alkanolamines, in which a) and b), calculated as solids, are in a weight ratio of from 100:55 to 100:0.5.
