PURPOSE: To provide a corrosion resisting material excellent in high temp. corrosion resistance and toughness by preparing a steel having a specific composition in which respective contents of C, Ta, Nb, and Ti are specified. CONSTITUTION: A steel, which has a composition consisting of, by weight, 0.005-0.04% C, 18.0-24.0% Cr, 1.0-5.0% Ni, 0.05-0.20% Nb, 0.10-0.40% Ta, 0.005-0.10% Ti, elements (Si, Al, Mn, etc.) necessary for steelmaking, and inevitable impurities and satisfying [Ta(%)+2×Nb(%)+4×Ti(%)]/16×C(%)=1, is prepared. By this method, the material, having superior corrosion resistance under a severe high temp. corrosive atmosphere in a reducing gas containing H2 S gas and also having excellent toughness, can be obtained.
