PURPOSE: To prevent the reflection of external light on a black matrix of a display substrate and to decrease the production cost. CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal display device 20 consists of a substrate member 18, display substrate 19, and liquid crystal layer 24 held between the substrate 19 and the layer 24. A black matrix 28 and a color filter 27 are formed on one surface 23a of the substrate 23 of the display substrate 19, and a transparent electrode 29 is formed thereon, and further an overcoat layer 30 is formed thereon. The black matrix 28 consists of a glass thin film in which inorg. material fine particles having low reflectance are dispersed. When external light is made incident on the black matrix 28, the external light is scattered or absorbed by the inorg. fine particles. |
