PURPOSE: To obtain a reflection type liquid crystal display element which has high light utilization efficiency and high contrast ratio, is bright and nearly the white compensated of display colors. CONSTITUTION: This reflection type liquid crystal display element has a liquid crystal compsn. 15 between two sheets of substrates 11 and 12 with electrodes arranged on an observation side and a counter side and has a modulation section A which modulates the reflection quantity of incident light by responding of this liquid crystal compsn. by the electrodes and a non-modulation section B exclusive of this modulation section. The region of the non-modulation section B of the substrates 11, 12 is provided with a chromatic white reflection layer 20 having a complementary color relation with the display colors of the modulation section A. This chromatic white reflection layer 20 is composed of a resist material prepd. by dispersing chromatic dyestuff into a white pigment of, for example, TiO2 . |
