PURPOSE: To improve the light transmittance of a liquid crystal shutter and the luminance of the display device itself without deteriorating chromaticity (color reproducbility). CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal shutter 2 is constituted to have a yellow polarizing plate 11A which exhibits absorbance of 0.1 to 0.25 with respect to the absorption axis bearing in a visible region of a wavelength of >=600nm, a purple polarizing plate 11B which exhibits the absorbance of 0.4 to 1.2 with respect to the absorption axis bearing in the wavelength region of 400 to 500nm and exhibits the absorbance of 0.1 to 1.2 with respect to the absorption axis bearing in the visible region of the wavelength of >=640nm, a red polarizing plate 13A which exhibits the absorbance of <=0.2 with respect to the absorption axis bearing in the visible region of the wavelength of >=540nm, a cyan polarizing plate 13B which exhibits the absorbance of 0.25 to 0.75 with respect to the absorption axis bearing in the wavelength region of 400 to 550nm, one sheet of neutral polarizing plate 15 and two sheets of liquid crystal cells 12 and 14 which are subjected to switching control respectively by color signals. |
