PURPOSE: To eliminate fall-down phenomenon of a brick at the time of using a brick and to extend the service life of a furnace by lining a part wher a molten metal remarkably enters the joint part of inside bricks at a furnace opening part in a converter with a monolithic refractory. CONSTITUTION: The monolithic material 3 is applied as the lining to the position, easy to develop the entering of molten metal, in the inner part of the furnace opening part and bricks are circularly arranged in the other part. The circulated lining of the monolithic material 3 is applied to a steel tapping side 4 and trunnion sides 5, and made of non-carbon base material in order to prevent the entering of a molten metal and reduce oxidation wear. The lining material made of MgO-C brick excellent in erosion resistance to slag may be used at a slag-discharge side 6 similarly to the conventional method (in the range of an angleθof 60-90 deg.C). The quality of the monolithic material 3 may be anyone selected from among alumina-magnesia quality, alumina-spinel quality, magnesia quality and spinel quality, and in order to secure wear resistance and strength at high temp., the material having hot bending strength of >=3.5MPa/cm<2> at 1000 deg.C and added with 1-5wt.% of stainless steel fiber is desirably used.
