A system has at least one surgical instrument (16) retained at an end of a substrate (12) placed near the head of a patient and >=1 line (14) attached to the substrate. The line is connected at one end of the instrument and terminates at a free end at the opposite end of the substrate. Pref. the substrate is cloth or non-woven polypropylene. The lines may be fluid tubing, fibre optic cables or power cables. The lines may be attached by loops, adhesive tape, hook and loop fasteners.
