<p>1203291 Super-conductors BRUNSWICK CORP 17 March 1967 [17 March 1966] 7041/67 Headings H1A A5 and A4D A composite super-conductor comprises a matrix of at least two materials containing a super-conductive zone formed by inter-diffusion of the two materials to provide a progressive variation in composition across the zone, the matrix having been subjected to constriction while enclosed in a can. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement comprising a can 15, filaments 13 of Nb and a body 14 of a nickel-iron alloy; the filaments are less than 12Á in a diameter, the assembly being produced by successive constriction processing and annealing to produce a diffusion zone at the interface between the two materials. Other arrangements are described where the can contains a spiral of two or more layers of the different materials or a series of concentric tubes or of planar layers. Examples of combinations of materials said to be suitable are: Nb-Sn; V-Si; V-Ga; Nb-C; Zr-Nb; Ti-Nb; Ti-V; Mo-Ro; Ti-Nb-V; Zr-Nb-V; Zr-Ti-Nb and Zr-Ti-V. The can may be of copper.</p> |
