An improved solid-phase method for assaying a HTBS comprising immobilizing a hydrophobic-target substance dissolved in an organic solvent on an inert solid-phase hydrophobic support material compatible with the organic solvent, contacting the hydrophobic-target substance with an aqueous sample containing a HTBS, detecting binding of the HTBS to the hydrophobic-target substance and determining the amount of the HTBS in the sample.
