A winch assembly includes a winch (2) comprising a housing (8), a roller (14) mounted in the housing (8) for rotation, means (19) for restricting rotation of the roller (14) at least in one rotational direction. A working line (6) is wrapped around the roller (14) at least twice, the winch housing (8) being open at its sides to enable the working line (6) to pass onto the circumferential surface of the roller (14) and closed at its top and bottom. The space between the circumferential surface of the roller (14) and the adjacent internal surface of the housing (8) at its top and bottom being small enough to prevent one turn of the working line (6) overriding another turn. |
