Improvement to exhaust apparatus of an internal combustion engine

The filter (7) is inserted e.g. between the exhaust manifold (4) and the exhaust pipe (5). It consists of a porous disc of fritted stainless steel impregnated with a deposit of rare earth oxide. To increase its effective surface area the disc may have a beehive structure. It may be placed in the front end (50) of the exhaust pipe at a distance from a catalytic convertor (6). It may be heated to a temperature between 300 and 500 deg. C.
