PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control shortage/excess in speed for an engine. SOLUTION: Engine control for insufficient speed and excessive speed controls a continuously variable transmission. The engine control monitors a present engine speed signal and compares it with the previous engine speed signal for computing an engine rate signal. A fuzzy logic controller monitors the engine rate signal, the present engine speed signal and a pedal position signal, computes a signal for controlling the continuously variable transmission, and consequently, provides a desired engine speed. |
