PURPOSE: To facilitate the transfer of waste ink to a waste ink tank by flowing back ink sucked from a discharge opening through a cap with the use of a suction means and storing the ink discharged through the cap as waste ink. CONSTITUTION: First, a cap 37 is displaced in the arrow A direction to cover a discharge opening surface. Next, the position of a piston rubber 42 is moved in the arrow B direction to suck ink in the nozzle of a recording head. The cap 37 is displaced in the arrow C direction without changing the position of the piston rubber 42 to be separated from the discharge opening surface. Next, a carrier is moved in the arrow D direction. When the opening part of a waste ink tank on the carrier comes to the a position opposite to the cap 37, the carrier is stopped, the cap 37 is displaced in the arrow E direction and pressed to a waste ink absorption body. When the piston rubber 42 is moved in the arrow F direction, the waste ink deposited in a cylinder 41 is transferred to the ink absorption body through the cap 37. |
