[Also in Division Cl] A single crystal of alumina oriented as shown is pulled from a melt in an induction heated rectangular crucible 16 having a lid 24 with a rectangular opening 25 surrounded by overhanging hemi-cylindrical ducts 27 connected to suction pipes 36 and 37. The melt flows up each side of the crucible, across to a melting line 38, and down again. |
