PURPOSE: To combine an upper tube with a lower tube with no play without using a resin mold by making a section in an oval shape by crushing both sides of a fitted part after forming the fitted part whose diameter is reduced gradually on the lower end of an upper tube and inserting a pipe which is a lower tube in this fitted part. CONSTITUTION: At the production time of a shaft for steering column, a first/ second straight parts 15, 17 and a first/second taper parts 14, 16 are formed in advance on the lower end of an upper tube 1 and a straight tube 20 with a fixed diameter is inserted from this end. Then, a taper punch 21 is inserted from the large diameter side of the upper tube 11 in the straight tube 20 and the outer periphery surface of the straight tube 20 is contacted to the inner periphery surface of the upper tube 11. Then, the section of a fitted part is made to an oval shape by push-pressing both side surfaces of the upper tube 11 and the fitted part is formed by forming a metal contact. Thereafter, a through hole 18 is formed on the fitted part and a shearable pin 19 is combined by fitting. |
