<p>A system (48) and method for allocating data (S, T) among first (bank 0) and second (bank 1) banks of at least one SDRAM (SD1-SD8), the data including first, second and third words to be accessed during consecutive read operations. The method includes the following steps: storing the first and third words within the first bank (bank 0), and storing the second word within the second bank (bank 1). The texture mapping computer graphics system includes a host computer (15) with a main memory (17) that stores texture data (S, T) including a plurality of texels, and a local memory (48) that stores at least a portion of the texture data (S, T).
