PURPOSE: To improve separating ability of a high-pressure separator and precipitation/separation of a high-molecular weight copolymer and to obtain the objective copolymer having a fixed density for a long period of time by making a low-density saturated hydrocarbon exist together with a reaction mixture in a high-pressure separator. CONSTITUTION: Ethylene is copolymerized with a >=3C A-olefin in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst at 300-4,000kgf/cm<2> reaction pressure at the melting point of a copolymer to 300 deg.C. The prepared reaction mixture is decompressed to 40-300kgf/cm<2> , is separated into (A) an unreacted monomer mixture and (B) the copolymer in a high-pressure separator. The component B accompanying in the composition A is separated by a separator of a high- pressure circulating process. (C) The unreacted monomer is recovered. When the obtained component C, the raw material ethylene and the >=3cα-olefin are supplied to a reactor, a <=4C saturated hydrocarbon having a density lower than that of the component A in the high-pressure separator is made to exist together with the reaction mixture in the high-pressure separator.
