<p>A method of casting a product containing an aperture comprises providing a mould (21) with a cavity (12A, 12B) which receives molten material which solidifies in the cavity, a thin walled container (36) is placed in the mould so an outer surface (37) is in contact with a surface (12E) of the mould adjacent to the cavity, heat transfer fluid provided in the container cools the material in the cavity by heat transfer through the container wall, the fluid is kept at a temperature below the liquid-solid phase change temperature of the material, deformation of the container wall occurs by shrinkage of the material during cooling and the change from a liquid to a solid.</p> |
