PURPOSE: To provide a color former soln. for detecting a coupler layer reduced in environmental pollution at the time of use and the spray containing the same. CONSTITUTION: A color former soln. for detecting a coupler layer is used in order to detect the region or coating amt. of the coupler layer of a coupler sheet having the coupler layer containing an electron acceptive coupler capable of forming a developed color image by the contact with an electron donating color former and prepared by dissolving the electron donating color former in an org. solvent. The color former is an indolylphthalide compd. or an indolylazaphthalide compd. and the org. solvent is a non-halogen compd. The color former soln. for detecting the coupler layer is sealed in a pressure-resistant container having a jet valve along with a spray agent to obtain a spray containing the color former soln. for detecting the coupler layer.
