PURPOSE: To produce a refractory material having corrosion resistance to slag, high strength and durability over a long period of time by using, as a component of the powdery blend for the material, the silicon-iron nitride powder that comprises respective adjusted volume percentages of two powder fractions each of which has particle size within a specified range different from the other and blending the powder with aggregate to obtain the blend for the material. CONSTITUTION: This powder contains 2 to 20wt.% iron and comprises >=45vol.% of particles each having a <=10μm particle size and >=15vol.% of particles each having a >=25μm particle size and can be produced by pulverizing a commercially available silicon-iron nitride powder with a ball mill or the like and then, if necessary, classifying the pulverized powder. Thereafter, the silicon-iron nitride powder thus produced is blended with aggregate to obtain a blend for producing a shaped refractory material or an unshaped refractory material such as blast furnace tap hole blocking material or iron runner material. The blend for the unshaped refractory material is obtained by blending e.g. 1 to 50wt.% of the silicon-iron nitride powder and 99 to 50wt.% of aggregate together and, as the aggregate, particulate alumina, agalmatolite, silicon carbide, coke, etc., can be used. The refractory material produced by using this silicon-iron nitride powder as a component of the blend for it shows excellent corrosion resistance and flexural strength over the wide temp. range of 1,100 to 1,500 deg.C or higher and also has durability. |
