NONWOVEN FABRIC AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To obtain a nonwoven fabric having excellent strength and lyophilic properties at the same time and suitable for a battery separator or a filter material. CONSTITUTION: This nonwoven fabric is made of a fiber containing an ethylene- vinyl acetate copolymer having a vinyl acetate content of 2-40mol% and a polyolefin fiber. The nonwoven fabric has an element composition ratio of fluorine to carbon (F/C) of 0.05-0.5 and that of oxygen to carbon (O/C) is 0.05-0.5, each determined by ESCA. It has an intensity ratio of oxygen to fluorine (O/F) determined by fluorescent X-ray analysis of 0.5-10.
