PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable method for detecting trouble in the transport of a web in a rotary printing press to protect the printing press perfectly at the time of the generation of trouble. SOLUTION: The instantaneous speed value VPAP (t) of a web is measured by a non-contact measuring method and compared with the imaginary speed VVIRT (t) calculated from the machine speed of a printing press, and the speed difference δV1 between both speeds is compared with a predetermined threshold value S1.
