PURPOSE: To enable the release time of a host computer to be hastened by providing compression determining means for determining the compression of an input data and its memorization to an input buffer and so forth, and data compression means or the like for compressing the input data. CONSTITUTION: The printer CPU 12 operates to comprehensively control access between it and various kinds of devices on the basis of a control program stored in the programming ROM of ROM 13 and a control program stored in an exterior memory 14, and also, to output image signals to a printing part 17 via a printing part interface 16. In a printer control unit 1001, the CPU 12 acts to compress the printing data inputted in an inputting part 18 and store it in the inputting buffer of RAM 19 as it determines that the compression of data in the inputting buffer can hasten the release time of the host computer. Also, it serves to compress printing data existing in the inputting buffer of RAM 19 and store new printing data inputted from an inputting part 18 to the inputting buffer. |
