FIELD: metal treatment. SUBSTANCE: metal-containing materials, in particular, those containing lead and iron are brought in contact with a cleaning reagent containing organic acid to dissolve contaminated layer of material to form an organometallic compound that is further oxidized producing a separable deposit bearing removed impurities. Organic acid is commonly formic acid but it may as well be another known acid solvent, for example, acetic, trifluoroacetic, citric, or oxalic acid alone or in pair with another solvent, for example, formaldehyde. EFFECT: enhanced cleaning procedure. |
