Mechanical brake application unit

The unit consists of a brake drum with two opposite brake elements, eg. finite brake bands (2,3). An actuating force is generated by a power coupling member (11). The force is applied to the band ends (2-3(a,b)) by a two-part (14,15) coupling mechanism (13), via transmission members (4-7(a,b)). The band ends are restraint via pivoted stationary guide rods (10-11(a,b)). The bands are positioned mirror-fashion relative to a symmetry plane of the brake drum (1). The coupling mechanism is constructed, so that movement of the successive band ends is symmetrical to that plane.
