A multilayered vegetation element (10) is disclosed for covering large roof surfaces with vegetation. The individual layers are mechanically bound to each other by threads (22). The bottom layer is a porous nonwoven (12) followed by a mineral wool layer (16) and by a cultivation layer (18) composed of seeds and living plant parts. The top layer is a holding layer (20) or protective layer. Alternatively, the bottom porous nonwoven layer (12) is followed by a mineral wool layer (16) and by a mixed layer (26) composed of coconut fibres mixed with seeds and living plant parts.
