A process for detecting and compensating for missing and/or incorrectly inserted cells on the reception side in the transmission of ATM cells with a matching layer AA1 of type 1, in which a sequence number is allocated to the cells together with a fault detection and correction code which shows whether the sequence number and additional information depending thereon has been correctly transmitted or not, and a decision is taken on this basis whether a cell is to be rejected or transmitted further and whether there is a missing cell or incorrectly inserted cells, in which a decision on the acceptance or rejection of a received cell is taken directly without awaiting a following cell pending the possible decision that one cell has been preceded by one or more missing cells or that a cell has been incorrectly inserted, after the reception of a subsequent cell has been included, where if it has been decided that the first-mentioned cell has been preceded by one or more missing cells, one or more fictitious cells are inserted with the same total number of bytes between the first-mentioned and the following cells and, if it is decided that the first-mentioned has been incorrectly introduced, it is nevertheless accepted but, by way of compensation, the same number of bytes in said subsequent cells and possibly a cell following them are rejected. |
