Accelerated concentration of analytes during micro extraction

A method of accelerating the concentration of analytes within the microfibre (1) during micro-extraction is based on rotation of the fibre on its own axis, thus avoiding stirring the phase fluid (6). For example, it may be used to extract pesticides for analysis from water. The equipment consists of a tiny electric motor (5) attached to the upper end of the probe (3) by means of a rubber coupling (4). When this is switched on it rotates the micro-fibre on its own axis. Rotation speed can be chosen for optimum concentration of analytes within the fibre in a specific period of time. Test results have shown that more than a three-fold increase in concentration, by comparison with use of a static microfibre, may be achieved. The system can be used with automated or manual micro-extractors.
