The assembly has four corner elements each formed as a unitary member having a pair of perpendicular legs secured together at ne end. Each perpendicular leg has a second end and a top surface. A first opening is formed in the second end of each of the perpendicular legs. A securing device is held in each of the first openings. Four elongated side frame members are removably secured to four corner elements to form the modular picture frame assembly. Each of the elongated side frame members has a central portion and two ends, with each end including a first and second portion. Each first portion extends away from the second portion and the central portion, and terminates in a tip. The second portions of the two ends of each of the central portion of each of the elongated side frame members include a second opening. The second opening is adapted to receive a securing device held in one of the first openings.
