Diol recovery process and plant

A process is disclosed for recovering diols from a diol esterifying process with dicarboxylic acids and/or from a hydrolysing process of a diol polycondensation product with dicarboxylic acids. The by-product represented by waste water contaminated with a residual amount of diols is purified by reverse osmosis and/or micro-filtration in order to produce pure water and diol separated from said pure water that may be returned to the esterifying and/or hydrolysing process.
