PURPOSE: To reform orientation control films and to improve a display grade. CONSTITUTION: The orientation control films 15, 23 are formed of SiNx and are subjected to rubbing. As a result, the common use of these films with passivation films is possible and, therefore, the reduction of the thickness of the dielectric layers between a liquid crystal layer and display electrodes 13, 21 is attained and the coating of conductive foreign matter is attained. The controllability of residual charges is consequently improved and the decrease of DC component voltage and the increase of a voltage holding rate are attained. In addition, the leakage between substrates is prevented. Further, pretilts are eliminated and, therefore, the disturbance by the control effect of the orientation by the pretilts is eliminated in a structure to control the orientation by forming prescribed electrodes and regions where the electrodes do not exist and deforming the electric fields in pixel capacitors. |
