PURPOSE: To provide a light source device with which the miniaturization and high-luminance output adequate for the back light of a liquid crystal display device, etc., are simultaneously attained. CONSTITUTION: The light source device of (a) is constructed of a U-shaped light source 1 having a light emitting part 1A and an electrode part 1B and a light transmission plate 2 having an incident surface D for converting incident light to a surface light source. The light source device of (b) is constituted of a L-shaped light source 3 having a light emitting part 3A and an electrode part 3B and the light transmission plate 2 having the incident surface D. Both of the light sources are constituted by bending the light source along the light transmission plate 2 and mounting the light source at the plate. The bending sizes 1, 1' of the electrode parts 1B, 3B are specified to <=1/2 the side length W of the light transmission plate along these parts. Since the light is taken into light transmission plate by utilizing only the light emitting parts of the light sources, the effective utilization of the light is made possible and the brightness is improved. There is no overhanging of the electrode parts and the miniaturization is made possible. |
