FIVE-HOLED SHAKUHACHI (BAMBOO FLUTE)

PURPOSE: To make it possible to exactly and easily produce chromatic scales, such as E and H flats without using a memory while allowing the expression of the fluctuation of a five-holed Shakuhachi (bamboo flute) by boring this five-holed Shakuhachi with finger holes of a first hole and fourth hole nearer the mouthpiece direction than a reference position, providing the edges on the pipe surface side of the finger holes of the first hole and the fourth hole with inclined parts and expanding the first hole and the fourth hole toward the pipe tail direction on the pipe surface side. CONSTITUTION: This five-holed Shakuhachi consists of a pipe 30 which is bored with the four finger holes of the first hole 41 to the fourth hole 44 from the tail side toward the mouthpiece direction in alignment on the front surface of the pipe and is bored with a fifth hole 45 on the rear surface of the pipe. The pipe is bored with the first hole 41 and the fourth hole 44 nearer the mouthpiece 32 direction than the reference positions of the first hole and fourth hole of the conventional five-holed Shakuhachi. Namely, alternate long and short dash lines indicate the boring reference position 48 of the first hole and boring reference position 49 of the fourth hole of the conventional five-holed Shakuhachi and the first hole 41 and the fourth hole 44 exist nearer the mouthpiece direction. The edges on the pipe surface 34 side of the finger hole of the first hole 41 and the fourth hole 44 are provided with the inclined parts 46, 47 to expand the first hole 41 and the fourth hole 44 nearer the pipe tail 31 direction on the pipe surface 34 side.
