PURPOSE: To provide an optical transmission system which can transmit the binary digital NRZ fast signals of 10Gb/s or more in a long distance via an optical fiber of large waveform dispersion and also can suppress increase of the cost and the power penalty by reducing the compensation value needed for dispersion. CONSTITUTION: An optical transmission system consists of an optical transmitter 100 which applies a binary digital NRZ electric signal to an optical modulator 4 to modulate the light intensity and transmits a light signal, an optical fiber 101 which transmits the light signal outputted from the transmitter 100 with waveform dispersion, and an optical receiver 102 which receives and turns the optical signal transmitted via the fiber 101 into the original electric signal. Then the modulator 4 is driven after the driving waveform is deformed so as to delay the timing when the output of the modulator 4 is changed to a low level from a high level compared with the timing when the output of the modulator 4 is changed to a high level from a low level by 15% or more of a single time slot. |
