<p>Ion-exchange hardening is produced by electric current from a negative supply terminal to the article via a connection which comprises: a glass piece with one face contacting the outside in which compressive hardening stresses are to be developed; a current conductor contacting the glass piece on the opposite side; and to the negative terminal. Preferably the piece is a strip of soft glass and the article is of glass which contains an alkali metal.</p> |
