PURPOSE: To obtain the image forming material capable of obtaining a stable and ultrahigh-contrast image with a developer comparatively low in pH and enlarging a halftone gradation reproduction region by forming a layer containing a silver halide emulsion having an average grain diameter not exceeding a specified value and a silver chloride content of a specified mol percentage and a specified compoud on a support. CONSTITUTION: The layer formed on a support contains the silver halide emulsion having an average grain diameter of <=0.3μm and a silver chloride content of >=60mol% and the compound represented by the formula in which each of (m) and (n) is 0 or 1; Q is an N atom or a -C(R1 ) = group; S is an N atom or a -C(R2 ) = group; T is an N atom or a -C(R3 ) =; U is an N atom or a -C(R4 ) =; V is an N atom or a -C(R5 ) =; W is an N atom or a -C(R6 ) =; each of R1 -R6 is an H atom or a univalent organic group; G is a -OR7 or -N(R8 )R9 ; R7 is an H atom or a hydrolyzable group; each of R8 and R9 is an H atom or a -SO2 -PUG or other univalent org. group; and PUG is a development inhibitor.
