摘要 PURPOSE: To realize high capacity in initial capacity by carrying out initial charging on an alkaline secondary battery having a positive electrode where paste containing a composite nickel hydroxide particle is filled in a current collecting body, and covering a surface of the composite nickel hydroxide particle with a specific cobalt type film. CONSTITUTION: Paste containing a composite nickel hydroxide particle obtained by forming a uniform layer of a cobalt kind 3 to 20wt% (Co conversion) on a surface of a nickel hydroxide particle is filled in a current collecting body, and a positive electrode 2 is obtained. An electrode group 5 by layering this positive electrode 2 and a negative electrode 4 through a separator 3 and alkaline electrolyte are housed in a bottomed cylindrical vessel 1, and an alkaline secondary battery is obtained. This secondary battery is charged with a constant current whose electric current value is heightened in stages, and initial charging is carried out, and the composite nickel hydroxide particle is converted into the nickel hydroxide particle covered with a conductive trivalent Co compound area and a Co kind area having the oxidation number lower than that, and a part of the trivalent Co compound area is made to reach a surface of the nickel hydroxide particle.
