PURPOSE: To obtain a small-sized portable electronic equipment with an electroluminescent element capable of increasing the life of an EL panel, improving the light emitting efficiency, contracting a circuit and deleting components. CONSTITUTION: When a control signal 405 from charging/discharging frequency control means 103 becomes a low level, a first step-up switching SW 105 becomes ON, and first discharge means 112 becomes OFF. At this time, a step-up element 104 is connected to first step-up means 107, which starts to step up in response to a step-up clock signal 403. Counterelectromotive voltage generated by the step-up operation is rectified by first rectifying means 108, and input to a light emitting element 109. The element 109 charges the counterelectromotive voltage input at each one clock of the clock 403 to store it, and emits a light to perform illuminating function. When the signal 405 is switched from a low level to a high level, first step-up switch SW 105 becomes OFF, first discharge means 112 becomes ON, and stored charge is discharged. Similar operation is then continued, the element 109 continuously emits a light to perform the role as an illuminator. |
