PURPOSE: To improve display quality by forming color filters on the outer side of a liquid crystal display panel, thereby making the gap length of a liquid crystal layer uniform. CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal display panel is constituted by forming plural common electrodes 8 consisting of band-shaped transparent electrodes (ITO) on a glass substrate 1 and forming an oriented film 11 thereon. Plural segment electrodes 9 consisting of band-shaped transparent electrodes (ITO) are formed on a glass substrate 2 and an insulating film 10 and an oriented film 11 are formed thereon. A light shielding film 3 and color filters 4 to 6 are formed on the outer side of the glass substrate 1, i.e., on the side opposite to the surface in contact with the liquid crystal layer 13. A protective film 7 is formed on the light shielding film 3 and the color filters 4 to 6. The light from a cathode ray fluorescent lamp is made into parallel beams by an condensing lens and these parallel beams are made incident perpendicularly on the display surface of the liquid crystal display panel from the rear surface of the panel. |
