<p>A weight lifting machine for performing a wide range of exercises has a lift bar (22) angularly adjustable (fig. 6) for a starting lift position angularly upward or downward of a substantially horizontal position. An pivotal support arm (58) is connected to the lift bar (22) for movement therewith. First (50) and second (48) pulleys are movably mounted above and below the support arm (58) such that the first pulley (50) moves upwards with the lift bar (22) and the second pulley (48) moves downwards with the lift bar (22). Restraining cables (72, 78) prevent either pulley (48, 50) from moving when the other pulley (50, 48) moves with the lift bar (22). A lift cable (44) is reeved around both pulleys (48, 50) such that movement of the lift bar (22) in either direction lengthens the distance between the pulleys (48, 50), thereby lifting a plate-type weight stack (36).</p> |
