Sorption element for cytological diagnosis

Sorption unit for cytological diagnosis, to work with a cylindrical sedimentation chamber with a downwards taper, is formed from filter paper with a defined absorption of fluids free of cells and corpuscles, such as Type 2040 (RTM). The element (15) is inserted from above into the sedimentation chamber (10), as a cylinder or a downwards-tapering sleeve, with the end shaped into a number of sorption tongues. The sorption tongues (16) are distributed round the circumference of the sleeve, at equal angular intervals, to give a working link between the sorption element (15) with the sedimentation chamber (10) at the edge of the sedimentation surface (14), and at a small gap from it. The sorption element (15) has an absorbent vol. which is significantly greater than the vol. of fluid (18) to be absorbed. The tongues (16) are dimensioned so that the absorbed fluid vol. is taken up evenly over a given time span of 10-20 mins.
