A device has a tubular body (2) with a nose portion (2d) for receiving a hollow needle (5) communicating with the innner portion of the body and a sliding plunger (3), opposite the nose portion, inside the body (2), which is actuatable by the user at the upper end thereof (3a), and arranged in relation to the body (2) in a position (fig. 1, 2) where its innermost end (3b) defines an inner useful volume at least partially filled by a liquid medicinal substance, wherein said device comprises a cap (7) for protecting at least the nose portion (2d) and a protective sheath (10) to be used after an injection, slidably mounted in a retracted position on the body (2), coaxially therewith, and of a length sufficient to cover the needle (5) completely in an extended position thereof, the cap (7) being connected to the sheath (10) or to the body (2) by tamper-proof means.
