1,205,556. Forging. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 8 Dec., 1967 [13 Dec., 1966], No. 55854/66. Heading B3H. In an impulse forming machine according to Specification 1,112,182, locking means 8, 8<SP>1</SP> are provided to prevent movement of the platen 7 until the proper working condition is reached. Stops 8, 81 may be operated electrically by sequence switching, hydraulically, or, as described in Fig. 2 (not shown), pneumatically. Sensing means responsive to the combustion chamber temperature and fuel injection pressure control the stops through gates and time delays, Fig. 3 (not shown). An electrical control circuit is described, Fig. 4 (not shown). For delaying the application of the pressure in the combustion chamber to the full area of the piston connected to the platen 7, the upper end of this piston has a seal member 1, Fig. 6, with a tapered flange 2 fitting the exit aperture of the combustion chamber. The seal is provided by co-operating surfaces 5, 6. One or more apertutes 4 are provided in the flange. The seal member may be formed integral with the piston. |
