The poisonous and/or corrosive fluid removal process involves shutting off access to the container (2) by means of a controllable access lock, which blocks the connection to the removal system (12) when the container is found to be empty and switches on a flushing system. This system flushed out the container and the connections to the removal system as far as the lock (9) with a flushing gas, until the container is free of residual fluid for all practical purposes. When this has been done, the container can safely be changed.
